However, the health benefits offered by a Hijab are largely unknown. Some scientific facts regarding this is given below,

The danger of UV radiation:

Most people are aware of the harmful effects of the UV rays radiated from the sun. These rays are responsible for causing many problems to the body such as premature aging, cataracts, and skin cancer. Long term exposure of skin to direct sunlight is the major reason for the problem “Melanoma”, the deadliest of the skin cancer.UV rays are strong and could easily penetrate through clouds, fabric and glass. Therefore protection provided by transparent clothing is not enough.

Medical experts recommend you to cover up with an additional layer of clothing especially ones made of tightly woven fabric to have a barrier between sun and your skin.

Conditions of hot weather

If you spend a lot of time outdoor during hot conditions without any required protection, it could be damaging to your body, particularly the brain. Overheating of the head increases the risk of memory loss and irreversible neural damage. Hence, it is better to have a head covering to shield the sensitive areas around the head, neck etc.

Conditions of cold weather

It is advised to protect your heads against wintery conditions because studies show that 40-60% of body heat is lost through the head.

On the whole, medical officials describe the “Islamic dress code” as the best one for maintain good health.
